Every garbage day we end up with several of our neighbor's recycling items scattered on our lawn and bushes, as they do not secure their items and overfill their bins. They never cover their recycle bins and the crap blows out and all over the place. Since we always have that "mandatory wind" on recyclable day, it ALWAYS blows into my front yard. They are otherwise okay neighbors, but this is just such an annoyance to me.
Is this a suck it up and let it go circumstance, or should I address it with them? If so, what is the best way to do so without sounding overly petty?

I had this same issue for 3 years with some "trashy" renters next door (they finally moved last month). If you have a spare bin that you don't care too much for, quietly place the strewn trash in that bin and leave it in front of their house. They will get the picture. That sort of worked for me.

Blow it back.

I dealt with the same for a few years.

Wow, why be so passive-aggressive? It's your neighbor who you'll presumably have to deal with for the foreseeable future. Just tell him politely about the situation. He may really not know about it. What else can you really do?

Dump it back in their own yard, and let them deal with it. It may be a pain for you at first, but after a while they'll figure it out.

Yea holy ****. Maybe just pick it up and throw it in your bin when you grab them from the curb. How long will that take out of your life? Maybe an entire minute? And you'll be cleaning up your lawn AND keeping refuse off the street and your neighbor's lawns.

I probably wouldn't even bother with the neighbors if I knew they were jerks. Some people are just *******s, it isn't worth the time to deal with dealing with them when it is MUCH faster to just fix the problem yourself.

Yea, plus he says they're OK neighbors otherwise. They may just be oblivious. Also, sometimes the garbage men are sloppy. Whenever I see trash on my property or on the street in front of my house, I just pick it up. Seems like most of my neighbors do the same, and as as result we have a pretty spotless neighborhood. My neighbor puts away my garbage pail because my wife and I are rarely home to do it in a timely fashion. He never asked me about it and never chastised me for not putting it away either.

On Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, when it was really windy, a couple of our paper recycling (partially broken down boxes) was blown into our neighbors' yards. I picked up what I saw but these things happen once in a while. Unless it is all the time, just pick it up or say something polite to the neighbors.

How often is it really windy on a recycle night? once, twice maybe three times a year. Just pick it up. Screw it. Life's to short to be stressed over rolling cans.

When I walk my dog I always pick up wayward recycling items and put them in nearby cans. It does seem recently to be windy on recycling day but I honestly wouldn't worry about it. We have one house on our street that doesn't blow out their leaves. Same thing every year and they blow in everyone else's yard but it is what it is.

Don't sweat the small stuff.
