How long has Nassau County PD been charging for ambulance service? I needed an ambulance and they requested my insurance information. Then what my insurance paid didn't cover what they thought they should be getting. So I received a bill for the balance. I am wondering what happens to people without insurance? Do they bill them? It's a hell of a thing to pay the taxes we do and then when they come, ask for your insurance.

Ambulances have always cost money. That's why people who don't have insurance try and get a friend or relative to take them to the hospital

Ambulances are $$$ everywhere and insurance usually doesn't cover. Don't use one unless absolutely necessary. My BIL called one for my sister once because she fainted....yes, really....and we were like "that was pretty dumb!".

It depends on your insurance.

My kid had a febrile seizure and was ambulanced to the ED. It was also was escorted by like 2 nassau county patrol cars because I think cops have nothing else better to do in East Hills since its generally safe and they were bored.

Did not have to pay a penny out of pocket, except a $60 copay for the ED visit and $10 radiology copay.

Call your local FD they generally won't charge you.

My kid was taken to the hospital by ambulance down the block from an urgent care once after given an epi shot (allergic reaction). Thankfully we have good insurance that covered it all. No doubt it has always cost money, but never understood why either. Do they charge you if the paramedics just came to your house and found you were ok?

This happened to me, I called for my kid he was fine, no need for transport. I asked if they needed my insurance they said no.

MY kid broke his arm in the park at Pt Washington. They had a volunteer ambulance crew there so there was no cost to the hospital. He then had to be transferred to the children's hospital which was billed at $800 on insurance but our co-pay was
only $100 using the regular transport out of Manhasset.
Another family member on Medicare had to go to the hospital ( in Queens). We were billed $600 with a co-pay of $125 each trip. After a couple of months of going to the hospital to the rehab facility (and then seeing the bill) I asked about other options, they said i could call for an ambulette but had to pay out of pocket (cost for me was $55 based on distance).
The ambulette is just a transport, roll in the wheelchair and strap down and go. No emergency equipment like an ambualnce.

But yea, i coulda saved some $$ by driving myself.

So the county's billing this like a user's fee. They should expand this to include all services, school, police, public works, parks etc etc. That would eliminate all real estate taxes ( no need for the reassessment) The only thing left would be the politicians, and their friends and relatives on the public doll. Perhaps someone could come up with an innovative way to pay the leeches?
