Lately I noticed Realtors keep upping the bar with what they consider a house with low taxes?

What do you think is good property taxes for Nassau County?

Probably depends on the town. I noticed in Garden City the bar seems to be $15K. When I sold my house the taxes were $12K and they were "low" and it was a selling point.

It should be compared to the rest of the homes in the same district. If $10k in Syosset, that's good. If $5-6k in Hicksville, that's also good. Then again that tells you the value of the home is also lower. I guess it's a selling point if all you care about is the tax figure. Sales tactic.

Under 10k for a standard lot (60 or 70 x 100) are reasonable for the area. Low taxes on LI is kind of an oxymoron.

"Good Property Taxes" are a figure that you can accept for the town you live in, the schools that your zoned for on a house that is affordable to you. In other words you have decide what figure you can live with because in comparison to the rest of the real world Nassau taxes will never be reasonable regardless what the realtors say.

Combination of Value of the home relative to the tax amount....also if there are commercial business that support the tax base. A lot of commercial business almost means more traffic & noise is a downside. I know someone who lives in house in NJ that pays close to 10 grand in taxes for a home that is worth mid 300s....I consider that very high tax

Some well thought-out answers on this thread... IMHO, 'good' property taxes are relative to the 'good' services you receive from those taxing authorities. Given those criteria, I wonder how much my town would owe me Seriously, my mediocre school district with the Cadillac tax levies, the library tax, and lest we forget our wealth-building police force, all contribute to what is a huge layout of cash. And until recently, almost all of the local roads have been unpaved for years, snow removal has been spotty, leaf bag pick-up very infrequent, etc. You get the idea. Lot's of money leaving my budget in the name of property tax, yielding very little in terms of usable services in return.
