Does national grid run the gas main 100 feet for free and then the service to the house for free? Or is it only one they do?

They pay for the first 100 ft - that's it. The rest is your responsibility.

When I did it 16-17 years ago, they'd run up to 100 ft down your street from a cross st. Then they'd run up to 30ft from the street to your home at no charge. Beyond any of those and their was a cost. Not sure how it is today.

The pdf file seems like 100 to main, and 100 to service line

As a licensed plumber, I can confirm based on recent installations that National Grid will provide 100' of street main and 100' of service to the structure or meterset from the main.
