We live in Merrick. We need to relocate temporarily for 6-9 months. We are considering renting in Metro 303 in Hempstead, which is a nice building with flexible lease terms. I read some reviews that the area is not safe and there have been some break-ins. Since the reviews are not recent, is this still the situation? Is Hempstead safe?

That building is safe. You're right on the border of Garden City, so its an easy and safe walk to 7th Street or the CLP train stop.

I do not recommend.
I live near that area but more closer to GC but in a secluded area.
That area is close to Terrace Ave which is known to have gang/drug presence.
Since 303 Metro looks like a "Fancy" building and with increase flow of traffic/pedestrian, it's more prone to robberies hence the low Yelp reviews which comments on robberies.

Too close to where you wouldn't go walking around at night.

It's fine with 2nd amendment rights and if you lock yourself in your apartment and never leave.
