That's why the contractors have insurance.
Did you obtain his certificate of insurance listing you as certificate holder prior to work starting?

I didn't get jacked for Sandy claims.
All I got was my yearly standard jacking.
That happened every year, for many years before Sandy.
So worst case, go through your own insurance.

Yes I have the roofers insurance info with me listed on the policy. Now the carting company that seems shady. The carting company has no business address on truck or website. The company listing comes back to a house in brentwood which I don't think is legit to operate a carting company out of a residential neighberhood.

Why would the homeowners insurance be involved. There is no coverage under the homeowners policy. Go after the contractors insurance.

I hope you have before and after pictures of your driveway.

Get a few driveway guys in to give you repair estimates. Approach the roofer and point out the damages caused by his carter. Give him the chance to do the right thing. If he drags this out or is an arse about things, go after his insurance to submit a claim.

As for the carting company -- they might have a yard elsewhere and run the business from a home office. I know a number of different trades who store their equipment at a location different from the address listed.

Your contract is with the roofer. It is up to him to deal with insurance if necessary.

I would like to see what the gypsies could do though... :-)

Homeowners insurance will cover damage done to your property by a contractor. They will of course attempt to get it from the contractor's insurance carrier, but they will see that you are reimbursed one way or another. Part of what you pay for is for them to handle it for you with their lawyers.
