More so today, let us not forget that Memorial Day is not about Bar-B-ques and shopping but about remembering all those men and women who died in defense of the freedom we know today. To their families, I will say, "I will never stop being grateful for what they and you sacrificed for me. Thank you."
Took my flag in before it started to rain. We are not allowed flagpoles in the ground here, but on the house is fine. I put my flag out most mornings and take it in at night. As I have said before, as the proud daughter of a WW II vet who was awarded a purple heart after being shot in the leg while running communications lines, we must never allow ourselves to diminish the importance of Memorial Day and Veteran's Day.
We went to the American Airpower Museum. This was our first visit. Then, since we were close to the cemeteries, we went to the grave sites of family members who were veterans.

I have never been there. Have flown out of Republic years and years ago but have not been there. Will have to add it to the list when back home.
Nuts2iam, it was really nice. I've been meaning to get over there. I understand that if you go during a less busy time, the volunteer guides will spend more time with visitors sharing personal stories and you get to watch them restore the planes, sometimes. Some are former employees of Republic, Fairchild, Grumman, and veterans. However, we got to see the planes used for the air show close-up and talk to some of the pilots. They also had a singer and dancing couple entertaining the crowd with WWII songs.
The museum reminds me of The Cradle of Aviation before it was renovated into a "polished" museum with professionally curated exhibits. It seems to be a work in progress, but there's enough things of interest that makes a visit with a $10 full admission price worth it (discounts for various ages) when there isn't a special event.
