Got a moving violation for crossing the white line (Hazard Marking) at an exit today on the L.I. Expressway. Ticket says I have to appear at Lake Success Village Court in late June. Never got one of these tickets before. The website the officer gave me for the Village says I have to pay a fine, but it doesn't say anything about points. Am I getting points? I don't mind paying a larger fine if it means the ticket being reduced to like a parking ticket with no points. Just don't want Insurance company to screw me. Anyone have any experience with this and can give some advice please? Much appreciated.

The website the Officer gave me:

What is the description of the violation? Crossing a single white line is not necessarily a violation unless it's unsafe to do so. At least that's what I could find on the NYS DMV website.

Quote:
One solid line: You can pass other vehicles or change lanes, but you can only do so when obstructions in the road or traffic conditions make it necessary.

Looking at the village website there is no description of a white line violation. What does the ticket say?

As far as the Lake Success Village Court, if you plead guilty or are convicted of a moving violation you will get whatever points are associated with the violation. Village Courts pretty much make up their own rules and they want to generate revenue for the village. Your case will be heard by a judge who is a village politician. Good luck with that. When I was a teenager many years ago I got a speeding ticket in Lake Success. I asked for a trial rather than plead guilty and didn't hear back from them for years. Then three years after the ticket I got a trial date and submitted a request for dismissal because of a lack of a speedy trial. The judge found me guilty anyway.

"Drove across hazard marking" is what it says on the ticket, though I believe I was before the hazard marking but whatever. I mean, from what I've heard, speeding tickets are treated worse than other moving violations when it comes to traffic court. How hard would it be to get it down to a parking ticket (though I anticipate paying more money) with 0 points?

I would say it is very doubtful they would let you plead to a parking ticket. Small village courts and police departments take themselves very seriously. There's little incentive for them to cut deals for the handful of tickets given by the small number of village cops. Good luck though!

They are looking for $ and don't care about anything else.

Suggest that you would be willing to plead guilty to a equipment violation (broken tail light) and see what happens.

Yeah, for one exit. I got my ticket as a teenager at a speed trap on the LIE service road between Lakeville and NHP Road. That distance pretty much covers their LIE jurisdiction.

I got camera flashed at the LIE service road at Community Drive twice trying to beat the yellow in the past few months. I'm surprised no tickets have shown up in the mail yet.

Generally takes 1 to 3 weeks. But there have been times when I was going through the yellow, turned red while i'm crossing the line and had the camera flash. I should have gotten 3 more tickets but for whatever reason, those never came. And this is not recent, those were at least 6 months to a year ago. So hard to say.
