I paid about $5600 for my second level. That included under my front bay window and around my kitchen in back. 3/4 inch insulation was used house is around 2k sq ft. I used the longest vinyl possible there is 2 seams and you can't see them. If you want the cedar shake look it's more. This was in 2015.
As KB stated it is better to remove it but in most cases cheaper to simply cover it. A friend just sided her home on LI and the contractor told her as long as he could cover it the price would be _____.However, if the asbestos shingles had to come off due to their condition that would need to handled by someone else and it is costly because of the regulations regarding asbestos and the disposal of it.
1) Over time the asbestos shingles, which were cracked be nailing the vinyl siding over them, fall and create a bulge near the bottom of the wall behind the new siding.
2) Great time to inspect and access the sheathing. You can make repairs, seal holes and then install house wrap.
I think we'll wait it out until the shingles are bad then we'll remove and add vinyl. House was built on 1950s and I plan on testing the shingle after closing to confirm it contains asbestos. Paint still looks good so I don't see any reason to remove.
Depending on how old your home is. The shingles may contain very little to no asbestos.
Most of all The BIG siding companies will go right over it. AND if done right will NOT bulge at the bottom.
If you asbestos shingles alone they pose little to no problem. Your risk of "LEAD" paint in your home is greater.
I have a Lead abatement Lic.
Had our asbestos shingles covered with foam insulation then the vinyl siding on top of that.
Don't see the need to remove the asbestos siding.
