It's a totally fine place and decent (big) high school. Not particularly charming in terms of looks or having a downtown but totally fine. For us the house taxes were too high, most in the 12K+ range and we ended up buying in East Northport with lower taxes. Very similar demographics in East Northport than Commack. Lots of regular people.
Commack is a middle to upper middle class town, depending upon where you are. The schools are good. One drawback is there is not a real downtown, but there is plenty of shopping on Jericho Turnpike. If you are looking at Commack you may want to also consider East Northport and Kings Park.

This pretty much sums it up
Not quite as ritzy and bucolic as its rich neighbor Dix Hills but still light years better than its other neighbor Brentwood.
We just moved to Commack 9 months ago. I can assure you that there are no cars on the front lawn and we have all our teeth. My house alone, we have over 90 teeth between 2 adults and one kid who doesn't have all his teeth yet.. Also, the BJs isn't actually in Commack, nor is it restricted to Commack residents only.....
To the OP, so far - its great!!! We have a great block, neighbors are awesome - at least the ones we have met so far. People do seem to keep to themselves but I think summer will bring more out and be more social.
Our neighborhood has a mix of teachers, MTA workers, IT professionals, Police Officer and retired folks.
If I can be of any more help, let me know!

There are no bad neighborhoods in Commack, only more affluent homes and less affluent homes. No one keeps a car on their front lawn. Shopping is great, highways are easily accessible and 3 malls are not far off. Schools are highly rated.
Not a fan of the housing stock or endless strip malls but know many who love it there. Solid schools. No cars on lawns, seems most people have decent dental plans. Don’t leave it off your list of places to look.

Pretty right on about the mix of people here. The pros of Commack are definitely the good schools and easy access to highways and shopping. No downtown but Smithtown, Kings Park, Northport, or even Huntington are not far off.
It's the Plainview of Suffolk. Other than the distance, nothing negative.
