Anybody know where you can take a couple of portable ACs for repair? One is not blowing cold air and the other gets super hot around the base. Thanks.

Buy new ones the cost to repair is not worth the expense.

Not worth repairing. Look for sales in stores like PC Richards, Lowes or Home Depot. I have gone through 4 window A/C's in the last 5 years.

Maybe you should get the extended warranty.

2 of the A/C units were given to us (previously used) worked great for 2 summers then died out. Hoping to put in ductless A/C next year.

Like everyone else said, buy a new one. More energy efficient and probably just a few hundred pending on size Any appliance these days is NOT worth fixing.

LOL - ok I got the message. It just seemed to me if all it needed was a little more refrigerant - it was worth the repair since new ones with decent BTU strength are $500+ by the time you add tax & delivery.

Yes - I feel comfortable buying some things with Costco's 90 day return policy on electronics. More generous then most places but these "disposable" AC units are usually great the first summer - but never work a second season. Seems $500 for a 3 or 4 month "rental" is pretty high.

Those were American Comfort brands by the way - incase anyone is interested in what to avoid. Great engineering but apparently no quality control in the Chinese manufacturing plants they come from. We only bought them in the first place because we wanted lighter weight models that one person - especially an older person - could lift or move around by themselves and these models were about 40 - 50 pounds. Every other brand we found were at least 60 pounds to almost 100 pounds and required 2 strong people to get upstairs and move about.

Recommendations appreciated.
