I am curious if LIers are abondoning their landlines yet.

I've abondoned my landline in 2000. We have used cell phones since then. Just a few months ago I caved in and added Voip in my home.

Every now & then I get odd looks that my "home number" first three digits doesn't conform to my neighborhoods digits.

We have a landline as there is spotty cell phone service at the house. We have to leave and walk up the hill and around the corner before we get a cell signal.

If I was able to get a cell signal at the house, the landline would be gone instantly.

Cell service is also spotty in my house. I've had the best luck with Verizon, and even better now with my newer cell phone (my other one was Motorola -- a few years old -- and my new one is also Motorola). Once I round the corner, though, it gets better. Hills, too, I guess, have something to do with it..

What cell plan have you found that's cheaper than Verizon? We'd be happy to drop the land line and couldn't find any that made it worthwhile.

Me too! Just switched to Fios, so far so good. PITA to switch.

I have a landline --- simply because I don't want to go over on my cell minutes. My phone only costs me $15/mo with the Optimum discount.

A landline on the FiOS triple play is really cheap, more reliable than optimum voice so we keep it.

FiOS isn't in my area yet.... I can't wait until they are so I can get rid of Cablevision once and for all!

How much is the FiOS triple play?

Depends on the package you select. Basic is $100. I have two HD receivers and the movie package so it comes out to about $150 total with taxes. Plus I have my cell phone on the same bill. $225/mo for everything.
