Seriously, get in touch with a boxer organization or club or whatever and ask about reputable breeders. You should be able to find a group easily online.
OP, pure-breed dogs are very, very, very few and far between in shelters, and on the rare occasions that they turn up, they don't last long. They are virtually always mixed with another breed, usually pitbull, and if they want to get cute about it, "Terrier". Secondly, you can't trust the shelters. They will tell you an animal is purebred when it isn't. Their main concern is finding homes for animals and they don't really care how they do it. It's your money, your long-term responsibility and if you want to ensure that you're getting a purebred animal, buy from a reputable breeder. That said, if pure-bred isn't a priority for you and you don't mind a mix - which are usually healthier animals than purebreds - then by all means visit your local shelter. I ended up going through North Shore Animal League for my 2 boys, as Brookhaven and Islip were almost nothing but pitbulls, which I refuse to own. Good luck!
Definitely check a rescue. Many boxers are rehomed due to people not realizing they are an energetic breed that need a lot of activity.
