Does anyone have a service contract for their gas boiler?
Mine was installed 8 years ago and I have my first issue with it now. Never had a contract with anyone...

I had to call Universe Appliance for an issue a couple of years ago. They replaced a $25 for $400. I was told that a service contract was another $450. I asked if I could buy the contract and use it for this visit but the answer was no. So, i didn’t go for it. I think there price is about average.

Not as nearly as nasty as the oil burners but they do get gunked up with carbon.

Youtube is Good. I just don't believe in service contracts. This is too easy.

Gas burners are relatively maintenance free compared to oil but there are still several electro-mechanical controls. Who do you call for service in February when its 10 deg and you had a failure.

Quotes so far:
Homeserve quoted me $309 per year for a gas service contract, $378 if I combine my central air. Unlimited Service calls and parts.
Burner King does not service Burnham Alpine Gas burners as they said the parts are too hard to get???
B&R Plumbing: $129 per year, reduced rate of $95 per hour for labor, plus parts.
Slomins: keeps me on hold too long to get a live person.
Petro: see Slomins.

I believe with petro I pay somewhere around 325 a year for the top tier plan (covers more parts 24/7 service, reduced rate if part not covered). There is a cheaper lower tier plan as well. I can say this about them, i had to call them twice in the last few years both times at late odd hours and they came pretty quickly and I didn't pay a dime extra out of pocket for either repair.

A friend of mine has homeserv, he says he likes them.
