As the title says, friend is flying in from out of town and is staying at Marriott in Times Square.
Should I take the LIRR all the way to Penn Station? I was thinking of driving all the way but then parking in the city could be horrible..please advise what are the options?
Can I drive somewhere along the LIRR path, park at any of the stations and then hop on the train for the last few stops?
Is Times Square walkable from Penn Station at night? Too cold out this time of the year?
Thanks..any point in driving further along the tracks and then park to get on the train..I didn't want to be constrained by the trains schedules .. and not sure when is the last train from Penn. I found a parking place one minute walk from Marriott ..it cost $32 used ParkWhiz app..probably not going to find anything cheaper..
If I could find good parking closeby, driving would be most flexible in terms of schedule

Many train stations requires you to be a resident of the town or/and pay a parking fee.
You can walk from Penn and TS. Probably 12-15 min walk with the lights.

You can take the train from Stony Brook but Ronkonkoma has a better schedule. Is this going to be during the week if not most parking restrictions are lifted and Hicksville is good to park on the weekend trains run every 30 minutes from there and its a 45-55 minute ride into Penn Station,
I need to go tomorrow night (so a weekday).. need to get there say around 8 - 9 pm or so..return will be late so definitely looking for late and flexible train schedules.. I don't mind driving to Hicksville.. I don't know if they have parking over there as never parked there.

LIRR from Stony Brook is probably the best bet. If concerned about schedules you could go to Huntington and drive from there or a closer station (they tend to have more trains than Stony Brook), but you might not be able to park depending on when you are going in.
Driving into the city would be an absolute nightmare, so I wouldn't do that. Once you get to Penn, you can either take a subway uptown for one stop (either the 1,2 or 3) or simply walk. It is only a 10-15 minute walk from Penn to Times Square so unless the weather is horrendous that would be your best bet.

Hicksville parking is free from 5p-6a. Its your best bet along the main line for frequent service.

After 5 or 6pm, it's free parking at Hicksville (from what I remember 2 years ago). There is plenty of parking after 5/6pm. Since you have to be there at 8pm, Hicksville is a good idea if you're coming back late.
I would drive to Hicksville or Mineola as you will have better options on your return as far as trains go. I would not drive into the city and try to park around Times Square.
Thank you for your suggestions..really helpful. I think I 'll drive to Hicksville, park and take the train to Penn Station, take the subway 1,2 or 3 uptown for one stop and reach at the destination.
So the late night LIRR from Penn Station leaves on these times: 1:02 AM, 1:11 J (Change at Jamaica) and 3:07 AM and 3:15 AM. 1:02 1:11 J 1:11
Thinking of how to time my return. Either get the last 1:11 AM train or wait until 3:07 AM.. Am I reading this right?
