Deal with a few lights across town, and you're out of NY. It's all good once you get out.
A few lights? On a weekday?! One truck delivery or a lot of pedestrians and it can be 3 light cycles to go one block across town, then there are the 15-60 min tunnel delays on a weekday. I agree on Bklyn being hit or miss but the VZB always moves well and SI is much better since they finished the bulk of the bridge/toll work.
FWIW on our many trips north and south we tend to take the route through Manhattan more often than not.
We haven't use Waze, but use google maps which will give you the best route for current traffic conditions ... so really the best advice is plug in your destination to either app and see which way it takes you at that time.
this might be the worst advice I've ever seen given on this forum. You know nothing about driving in the tri-state area. Go away before you infect others with your ignorance.
I agree with S.I.B. Definitely just head thru Staten Island. Forget going thru Manhattan in the daytime unless it's Sunday.
Went to the Giant game yesterday, Waze took us thru Manhattan.
yes, the quickest way to East Rutherford from Long Island on a Sunday morning is in fact traveling through Manhattan. You can go tunnel to tunnel in 5 minutes. I've done it many times going to games at the Meadowlands.
Of course this has nothing to do with traveling to Baltimore at 2:00 on a weekday.
