my last few times at DMV in NY haven't been too painful. In and out in a relatively short amount of time. That's with and without an appointment. Seems like it's improved a bit from the bad old days.
It's amazing that this day and ages place like the DMV, and the PO, and other Gov't Agencies are still 9-5. Completely geared toward the unemployed.
How about some flex schedules? I'm sure there are workers that would like weekend shifts, late nights. Hell even Dr offices work weekends and late night.
I wonder how traffic would be affected if all non essential Gov't Employees could work flex schedules, instead of all having to be at their desk by 8-9 o'clock.
The Bethpage office is open till 6p on Thursdays. I think if you get in by then, they will finish you up.
Went to Garden City last week for a Real ID, couldn't schedule an appointment. Had all my documents. Got in at 315pm, left at 545pm. The actual transaction with the rep took 15 minutes, the rest was waiting-waiting-waiting.
Oh and ONE non-staff restroom each mens/womens for the entire facility. Ridiculous.
Bethpage at opening I got there 25 minutes before and was about 20th in line. Got in and took maybe 20 minutes from the line to being called up. Whole thing took an hour - from out of my car till getting back in.
I remember many decades ago the line at the DMV in Hauppauge when out the door, down the steps, and sometimes into the parking lot until someone came out and had them line up on the sidewalk.
I don't get why any one would get a NY enhanced ID. it's $30 and last 2 years. You can get a passport card for $65 it lasts 10 years and do it online w/ no trip to the dmv!
You can only get a passport card online if you already have a passport. If you don’t have a passport you have to go through the application process in person.
Went to the DMV on Tuesday on 125th street in Harlem. Got there at 9 was out the door by 920. Took me more time to get there than time spent at the DMV.

I find the ones in the city are pretty quick. Probably b/c most Manhattan residents don't drive.
