Hi..I'm looking for some information on the area off sheep pasture around debbie court. I am potentially looking at a home but unsure if the boundaries of the northville gas leak reached up to this area. Does anyone have any info on the boundaries where it is potentially safe? Would this are be affected? Is this still a concern 30 years later? Any info is helpful - thank you!

I went to Steve Englebright's office years ago about the same question. They said that the spill doesn't evaporate underground, and that it spread all the way to the Nassakeag Elementary school. I forget how far north it went. Your best bet is to go to the correct office in Setauket and find out how far the spill went. I realize it was 30 years ago, but it still hasn't evaporated. Btw, a realtor will tell you what you want to hear - not the truth.

Thank you for responding! What do you mean the correct office? Where exactly can I go to discuss affected areas with this?

Go to the DEC office at SUNY Stony Brook and ask there. They will tell you the facts. Politicians will also tell you what they want you to hear.

it’s north of Upper Sheep Pasture, east of Pond Path, west of Belle Mead Road -in and around the story book section

Check the tax rates of the homes and compare them to homes a half mile away, these homes often still show a lower tax rate after the spill
