Okay, but statistically, from a huge data set- NY Metro has the longest commute times in the country.
So your single anecdotal example isn't relative to the whole.
35 minutes each way is 70 minutes in commute time at a minimum (if you live at RVC Station and work at Penn). Many metros have commute times of <30 minutes per day.

No one is forcing people to have a long commute but the MTA, and NYS Transit certainly isn't making the situation better as time goes on.

Google: “sunshine dollars”

I’m not jealous of ANY of those places.

Georgia & Carolinas? LMAO
Millions of people live in those places.
Who in their right mind would live in San Jose, CA? Those who have the highest median salaries in the country- and the minds behind Silicon Valley.

... but regardless of that, "who" would want to live in those places... well, from a statistical standpoint and based on their growth- tens of thousands of people per year. That's what their exponential growth represents.

You don't have to be jealous of a place, your emotion is meaningless to it.
You merely protest that Long Island is bustling and growing, when all data points to it lagging behind the country.

As for San Diego having "lousy paying jobs", they have a higher per cap GDP than Nassau and Suffolk. So, in fact, that would mean LI's jobs are even LOUSIER paying.

Is being proud to be ignorant a desirable trait on Long Island?

I never said Long Island is bustling ... ?

I do think the population numbers here though speak to its desirability

GDP is not the same thing as jobs

Good things take time

Also LI is the longest island in the continental US so it makes sense our commutes would be long. Montauk for example is considered part of the NY metro area, it’s 118mi from NYC ... what other metro area has places 118mi from its main city?

Jdawg, I think you'd make a great salesman.

You can take something that's utter garbage, like LI, and advertise at as something more than a swamp in the ocean.

No! I’d say 35%+~ of the entire country but, definitely a large percentage on LI. Don’t you read the comments sections?

Utter garbage to some are a paradise to twice as many. How many wish they had the means to live comfortably here? All things being considered we have it pretty good!

There are fewer people living in Nassau County today than there were 50 years ago. How does that speak to its desirability?

1970 1,428,080 9.8%
1980 1,321,582 −7.5%
1990 1,287,348 −2.6%
2000 1,334,544 3.7%
2010 1,339,532 0.4%
Est. 2018 1,358,343 1.4%
