I’ll spare everyone the details but I had to come up to speed really fast as a parent for Section 504 and IDEA rights. My son really suffered. Today he’s in a talented and gifted program, getting straight A’s and not even classified as special ed. No thanks to 3V.

To your other question, I along with many others still have family and friends on LI. I don’t randomly criticize NY, but you do gain perspective when you leave and look at how messed up much of LI is. Just as there are total naysayers here there are also people with their blinders on who don’t see the challenges. I would never tell someone to leave if they’re happy, but I will point things out if they’re looking to move to LI, or present alternatives.
Thanks.

I think the rest of USA has woken up to the fact that corporate America is not looking at NYC like it used to a decade or 2 ago.
If NYC gets into more financial trouble than it already is in... the companies have over the past few years validated the fact that they can find good resources elsewhere and that they can move out of NYS if they have to.
This was not the case earlier - it was NYC or bust.

If these jobs keep going out of the state - it will become tougher to live and work there. We do not need to document how many well earning "can make it on LI" families have also moved out of LI.
LI is in competition with NJ, Weschester and CT as far as families looking to move out out NYC and get a bigger house. I am not sure if its winning - but that pretty much sums up the profile of people moving into LI. Not many from out of state are moving into long Island.

What I don't really understand about the beaches part is that the ones on the north shore are rocky and really not appealing, and while the south shore has nice sandy beaches, many popular ones look like this on a nice summer day -

For those who go to south shore beaches, where are they less crowded and more relaxing?

Only places where you are not allowed to go.
Gotta love NY.

This is true, beaches are packed like sardines - and the water is so rough too, not to mention pretty cold up until middle of August when schools are about to start in 2 weeks. The water is just brown all the time.
The best I remember was in Block Island (obviously not a every week thingy).... but the water was so shallow and you could walk into the ocean for over 100m (lighter shade of brown though).

LI Beaches are over rated for the beach experience - just like a lot of things, but people who want to stay there for the beaches love it, so thats fine.

Long island beaches are very nice. although not perfect, when put together with proximity to the city, it's one of the best packages in USA.

It's much better than those in Cali as you can actually swim here without a neoprene suit.
