What I don't really understand about the beaches part is that the ones on the north shore are rocky and really not appealing, and while the south shore has nice sandy beaches, many popular ones look like this on a nice summer day -
For those who go to south shore beaches, where are they less crowded and more relaxing?
I'm curious which beach this is. I've never seen a long island beach like this except maybe Jones during a heat wave, flooded with NYC visitors. I don't see any lighthouses or towers in the distance so I'm doubtful that this pic is even a LI south shore beach.
My beef is more about inadequate parking and no dogs allowed anywhere. NY is crowed everywhere, why would the beaches be different?

The perspective is of the shoreline so it’s impossible to judge without seeing the entire beach. Everyone is standing as though they are watching something. As with everything else there is a bias present. LI south shore beaches are pretty wide so there’s a lot of space between that water and the parking lot/boardwalk/whatever.
If that is a LI beach bet it was Memorial Day or July 4th.

There are plenty of uncrowded beaches on LI. People from Atlanta wish they had some sand to sit in even if it had some rocks.
Ah, the usual “deflect and deny” LI defense.
Admittedly there aren’t any ocean beaches near Atlanta. Lake Lanier (a huge man made reservoir) has beaches but they won’t be the same as the south shore. That’s about a 20 mile drive for me.
For ocean beaches you need to drive several hours to get to Savannah, or a longer drive down to the Gulf.

Nothing to deny. We get it, you didn’t find value living on LI. The beaches are awesome though, don’t hate, appreciate.

The dig “People from Atlanta wish they had some sand to sit in even if it had some rocks” is what prompted my comment. I apologize however if you have extensive knowledge of Atlanta’s wishes.
My question still wasn’t answered - which south shore beaches open to the public with parking nearby aren’t jammed during hot summer days?
