Hi everyone. I got an offer to teach in a school as a computer science and technologist integrationist. 9 years of experience, teaching degree. I have no idea about the salary that I can ask. I saw that Nassau County is one the most well paid for teachers but private schools are a whole different world. I was looking to ask no less than 75k, am I right. I am single, no kids. I will be relocating from Berkshire, MA.
I really appreciate your help and advices where to live and rent. Thanks.
salaries at private schools are all over the map. Some lower than $30K for people with masters and experience. Some are more reasonable. If you were in a public school that salary would be reasonable.
If I were you, I'd ask what you think you should and see from there. Are you relocating for the job? I certainly wouldn't relocate here for a job. Living here is expensive, more so than where you're coming from and teaching is a very hard field to break into here.
Are you planning to remain a teacher for the rest of your career? If so, I would avoid private schools and try get into a public school where you can join the retirement system.

Tough to live on $75k here and most private schools won't pay that.
Check glassdoor. Sometimes people post their salaries so you can see what comparable positions pay.
I'm not a teacher, but public school teachers have it pretty sweet here, I don't think private school is where you want to be … especially if you want to make money.
LI public schools are tough to get jobs in, the NYCBOE I hear is better.
Get into the retirement system. There is supposedly a teacher shortage nationally. If you are looking for a math or science position, you will have an easier time. The pension and healthcare are excellent for public employees. Long Island is expensive. If we didn't get our house when prices were lower, even with decent salaries, we would not afford to live here. Try to get a job as a public school teacher.
Try this web sight and see what you can find out about the local schools. The teacher contracts are shown but maybe the private schools are not. It will give you some insight.
75K would be more than you would be paid as a first year public school teacher here on Long island. Does your private school job offer include housing?

I didn't bother to check and I don't think it does, but maybe he can get a better handle on the local salaries in a public school.
