As an almost 30 year commuter on the LIRR, the simple answer is, it will work as well as all their other emergency plans have over the years. Wonder if the conductors union will allow them to take temps or if there will be additional hires to do that?

They will be using mass thermal imaging equipment. And it will be in the future, so thats a long way from now. Every type of mass transit will have them. Its dumb, and a waste of $. This pandemic is so overblown.

If they raise the fare, probably be cheaper to drive to manhattan. I pay $20 to park all day now. Even better, I get it fully reimbursed by my employer

MTA needs to cut salary across the board 20% and no more OT. They are fiscally irresponsible

Have there been any layoffs due to the virus or pay cuts? Most private employers have done either or both and it's clear ridership is way down.

the reservation will be in place right before you go to work.

have you ever been on a LIRR train in the winter? half the people are sick and coughing the whole ride. its always been like that, this should make things very interesting. your company isnt going to give more days off if your sick, some people have to go to work sick.

plus now either your going to have to wake up and take the 2 am train to work, and wait there just until your job starts or deal with social distancing and reservation systems and coming in late.

I personally know people who took pay cuts in the private industry due to the pandemic . Even profitable companies have cut OT.

The news reported many jobless people out there. No need to explain that in detail here

Sorry if I wasn't clear - I was referring to the LIRR/MTA. I don't think I know a single person who hasn't either gotten pay, hours, OT or benefits cut (or more than one of these) in the private sector.

I see early retired LIRR/MTA guys from "disabilities" all the time in my office who are healthy as a horse.
What a cushy scam to be part of.
No wonder Cuomo is begging for a 60billion federal bail out.

I say let it collapse, let someone else buy the LIRR and MTA.

Their prices are pre corona virus, its time to make a round trip ticket to the city $10 during peak hours. enough is enough

they cant try to keep the same "normal" pre corona virus prices in a post corona virus world, just like they cant pack a whole train.

My private sector job has kept all salaries intact, we furloughed about 50 lower paid employees (12%) who all now make more on unemployment. They come back 8/3 unless the $600 free fed $$ is extended. Budget has been approved for next year, I suspect we will see more cuts this time next year. The public sector for sure has not taken a cut, my wife got a raise may 14th.
