It's a roll....with butter....you really need a picture? It's generally the kind of roll that you eat a sandwich on, sometimes called a kaiser roll. I don't get the attraction, but this is one of those culinary experiences that Long Islanders seem to think set them world's apart from everyone west of the East River. Kind of like Big Barry's and Cooky's.
Sorry, I know a strange question. My friends on LI always run out to 7-11 or wherever for bagels and buttered rollss, for breakfast! They cant' believe that isn't normal here. Never ever heard of such a thing for breakfast time and the other friends I have here from NJ or NY all say the same thing, never heard of such a thing.
Of course I know what a roll is with butter, but that's dinner time food. Is it the same kind of roll?
So, what is this? Anyone have a picture!?
I had every intention of finding this out this past weekend while up there, but never did.
Well, where are you from that you never heard of a buttered roll or bagel with a coffee for breakfast?
There are mornings where I'd kill for a butter roll w/my coffee going to work. People up here don't even know what they are That is a LI thing I miss.
I don't get it. A buttered roll is not much different than buttered toast. Isn't buttered toast part of an American breakfast?
It reminds of when I order eggs and morcilla at this Puerto Rican restaurant in Washington Heights. Several times I have been asked is that good together. My reply, "yes, they serve it every morning with sausage links in most homes in Ireland."
