Looks like I may be fortunate enough to get a new job in Oyster Bay. Not far from the Roosevelt statue.

If so I'm considering moving further out east. I primarily have been in the Garden City area and commuting to the city. Completely unfamiliar with a commute heading to Oyster Bay from farther east but very interested in more land and house for my money. Two very young kids so schools, a nice backyard and playgrounds are important.

Suggestions on where to look?

I'm thinking Northport.

Seems you can get a decent place for about 650-800K.

I’m not sure you can get more for your money in Northport than Oyster Bay but as far as schools go, Northport is very good IMHO.

I second Northport. I worked in Northport for a few years and absolutely loved it. However, I imagine commuting in the City everyday would get old quick.

East of Huntington gets tiring as the Port Jeff line is still diesel or dual mode. So mostly a change at Huntington or Hicksville.

I’d also check Centerport.

Make sure to budget 15-17% tax hike in Northport. If the settlement is approved and it most likely will you will see the full hike in I believe 7 years.

Are you talking about driving to Oyster Bay from Northport (or some place similar)?

If so, you should check out the roads from Northport (or Centerport, Greenlawn, Huntington etc.). The LIE and NSP are pretty far out of the way so you will probably be taking Rte 25A as the most direct route (Pulaski and Jericho are partial alternates) but while it is a very scenic road, it is not a fast road to travel on. I suggest you check it out before looking in Northport.

If you think that 25A might be a problem then maybe look somewhere a little closer. Even a few miles can make a difference during the winter or during the inevitable construction or accident delays.

Northport village would be a full 35 minutes (at least) if you are driving west at 8-ish on 25A towards downtown OB on a weekday. For some that might be quick.
