Anyone having severe issues with GPS lately? I feel like since the tropical storm in August, GPS has been completely wonky and, in some areas of LI, totally unusable. My wife and I both have issues - she has an older model iPhone (8 I think) and I have a brand new Samsung Galaxy. My previous phone, which I replaced in August, was also having GPS issues.

Common things that are happening are:

* "GPS Signal Lost"
* GPS just freezes
* GPS goes absolutely haywire and cannot place actual position

Again, this same issue is happening across 3 different phones. Google Maps is the worst, but it's happening to Waze too. I am experiencing it in areas that I have never had problems with before. North Shore LI is typically always bad for cell service, but it's never THIS bad.

There's a known issue with GPS abruptly stopping the follow-along on Google Maps with Samsung Galaxy devices since a few months back, though it seems better the last couple weeks. Not sure about iPhones. What carrier are you on?

Waze has never been reliable for me, whether it's response time, GPS location, or better re-routes. It's only good for speed traps.

Easy solution. If you use google maps download offline maps. I have basically all of LI, nyc, parts of ct and Westchester. Takes up like 1.5gb if I don’t have a signal it rolls to offline.

It works great when i was out of the country in February in remote parts of Central America had no cell service but had offline maps. Got every where I needed to go.

I use Waze all the time (Long Island, 5 boroughs, northern NJ) and haven't had any issues recently.

Not sure what that means, but real time traffic info is great. We do have traffic on LI, I believe.

Offline follows along real time too?

If you're using a Galaxy S8 (maybe others in the Galaxy line) there was an update a few months back that really screwed up the GPS system. It seems to have gotten better recently, though.

Even though Bill Clinton banned it, you never know when the government needs to invoke GPS “Selective Availability” due to national security concerns like an inbound hot nuclear ICBM or a bad actors submarine coming up to the surface for a gps “fix”.

Nope. Sooner or later you're going to hit a major road or water.

Once Biden takes over in January, GPS will start working again, along with Covid disappearing.
