So because of all the heavy rain this weekend, a large pine tree in front yard uprooted.
I was able to chainsaw it up myself into logs I can split into firewood later.
But there is a large overturned stump and rootball left over that is impossible for me to move back since its massive.
How much can expect to pay for a stump grind only by a pro?
When I had trees cut down in the past without stump grinds, I usually pay in $600-1000 range, but I never had stump grinds before.
Since I'm a cheap DIY bastard, I was thinking about going nuts at the rootball with a Sawzall, but that would take forever.
Since the tree is in your front yard, you may want to disregard my suggestion but here goes. Get a few boxes of salt & pour on the rootball, wait for spring & revisit.
I'm a DIYer also but in this case paying someone to grind the stump for $200 is a no-brainer. To do it yourself, it's a hard day of work or longer.
I DIY to save money and gain skill sets. But in dumbo's case it's not really about money. I suspect the science geek wants to feel like a he-man for a day. Also shock and astound his pampered neighbors. ha-ha!

Have at it and let us know what happened, dumbo.
Its definitely not to impress the neighbors. North Shore snobs are not impressed by blue collar labor, no matter how Tim Allen Home Improvement he-manly it is. Ever since I moved to the burbs in 2015 from the city, I have been DIY obsessed as a hobby for both home and auto. I like solving problems and working with my hands. Excuse to buy shiny cool power tools. Also great exercise. Youtube/internet has been a godsend for the DIY'er. I haven't taken any of my vehicles to a car mechanic in years except for the mandatory state inspection.
Also hoping it will rub off on my young boys seeing dad doing blue collar stuff, so they won't grow up to be North Shore a whole snowflakes. But i doubt it.
This past summer I paid $900 to grind two stumps + take down medium tree, & trim branches on 5 other trees. 3 guys worked for 3-4 hours and hauled all the debris away. With stump grinding machine takes only 5-10 minutes per stump and they're done.
