What I find interesting and a reflection of current society, is watching the two neighbors on my street use their snowblowers and stop at their property lines on the sidewalk, turn around and walk back. Won't even snowblow 2 inches of their neighbor's sidewalk.
I'll happily shovel my own. But these two neighbors live next to senior citizens. If I had a snowblower I'd do the sidewalks of at least two houses on either side of my house.
Once upon a time it would be appreciated and openly thanked, and possibly reciprocated in different ways.
Nowadays you’re just as likely to hear nothing, or worse, get a complaint that you didn’t do it right..or didn’t have the right to do it at all.

Typical li douchebag. I find people on li a bunch or entitled idiots. Can't wait to leave this shthole
It is a heavy snow....layered with ice and hard to shovel.
I went outside to brush off the snow (especially the ice) off my arborvitaes. They were already leaning and showing the exposed deadwood in the center. If you have a chance check on your arbs (very common plant here) and try to take off the ice...sometimes they don't recover and "bounce back" to their upright position if the ice is left on them too long.
I never knew they were so sensitive. Thanks for the tip :-) Oddly, the healthiest and largest arbs I’ve ever seen are on my parents private road in CT. They are gigantic, and no one cares for them, they also get pummeled with snow. I always think it’s strange they do so well there, and you see so many down here diseased and half dead.
I am fed with my arbs getting trashed with every storm. I'm ripping them out this spring.
The emerald greens are the crappiest evergreen.
Right now they all look like giant octopuses.

But why would you expect otherwise. Generally these days, many of us don't interact with our neighbors aside from a wave here and there (and often times I notice folks won't even return the wave or pretend they don't see me). A snowblower is an investment and I choose not to be the community snowblower. Folks who have never spoken to you for years will want to buddy up to you during the snowstorm. I was out there earlier today and watched one of my neighbors shovel while he who has two sons (teens/early 20s) who I assume are inside doing nothing. That's the real sign of the times.
If they are senior citizens then they should hire a service who will more than happy to come out and take care of the snow for them...for a fee of course. I have some seniors on my block (husband is also disabled) and I am hip to their game now. The wife waits by the door hoping someone would shovel for her and after a few years I recommended she hire a service and she refused (and I know she can afford it).
Kids don't come around like back in my day to shovel so you hire a service or sell and go into a retirement community where these things are handled for you.

The emerald greens are more prone to issues with the snow as they are more tightly bunched (as opposed to the Thuja Green Giant which is more open and flowy). It's been awhile since mine looked so bad after a storm..I usually go outside during the storm and give them a good shake but there is so much heavy/snow that some of it wasn't moving.
What will you replace them with? They are one of the best privacy screens since they are compact/ideal for almost any space and aren't fuzzy/don't need much care.

Most people on Long Island are very territorial.
