When I was a kid we went to toys R us in valley stream and they had normal priced bikes pre built on the racks so we could try before buying. Since toys r us closed I don’t know any place like that. Target has bikes but they’re in boxes. And stores that exclusively sell bike equipment want 300-400$ minimum for a a 5 year olds bike..

Is there a place similar to how toys r us was? I live in bellmore

Did u check brands in wantagh?

Also theres a guy in North Bellmore somewhere who sells bikes from his house. Old bikes that he refurbishes & sells but I’m unsure if he is still there nor where he lives. I’ll try & find out. A friend told me about him years ago

Also unsure if Nemos in Oceanside sells bikes. Their website is down but u could call & ask

Update: here is the Bellmore guy. Unsure if he is still doing the whole bike thing: http://www.kbbicycles.com/

For a 5 year old?

You can get a Specialized or Giant from a real bike store.for mid 200s.

Also take a look at the Raleigh MXR series...online...it's still a real bike store quality bike. I paid maybe $150 for one for my son when he was 4...MXR16 in that case.

My daughter's 20" Specialized Hotrock was maybe 260.

Just got my son a 20" Giant XTC jr...$270 and great quality for a kid.

Target, and other big box store stuff is junk...they will be way heavier than a quality bike...which makes a big difference bro a 5 year old who is learning. Not saying you need to spend $400.

If mid 200s is a bit rich, definitely look into the Raleigh MXR. You can order online through Raleigh and it is delivered to a real bike shop and assembled for you there as part of the price.
