After you finish eating at All American in Massapequa, go to Krisch's for ice-cream (if you didn't get the cheapest milkshake in town at All American).
Lots of restaurants have limited hours or not open yet at all …it was fun but I wouldn’t go back …..very expensive at restaurants , way more then we pay in queens ..gas was over 4 a gallon

Out there yes, always has been. They claim its the distance to haul the gas. Not buying that. They know they can charge higher prices. Its cheaper in mid Suffolk but need to venture away from the stations right off the LIE for cheaper.
Not sure what's so great about Massapequa & Riverhead but others have made good suggestions ...
Greenport
Fire Island (Take train to Bay Shore and you can get the ferry over)
Jones Beach
Nautical Mile
Fishing Boat (out of Freeport or Captree but Captree isn't too accessible by train)
Jordan's Lobster in Island Park
Ralph Ice's (various towns)
When you did Massapequa, did you go to All American? If not, then I recommend that.

Yes, I did got All American as well as Krisch's. Had these as the end reward of sorts for hiking bits of the Massapequa Preserve. I really like All American, though usually I'm there by car.
Riverhead was for the train museum (you might've guessed that I have an interest in trains) and the aquarium.

I spent a bit of time in Riverhead and kind of think it's underrated. Same goes for Hampton Bays and other east end places that are a bit rougher around the edges. Don't go for the posh towns too much.
If you're up for riding a bike they are available in many locations at LIRR stations which will expand the areas you can reach. I'm pretty sure it's the Bethpage Credit Union that sponsors the program, you can probably find exact locations online.
