At 10 AM there was a knock on the door with PSEG tech for installing smart meter. If your not home or don't answer the door they will automatically swap out the old meter with new one. They will be doing this until 2023, when they will start charging monthly $25 fee to read your meter and a $65 install fee if you want to switch to new smart meter (now it's free). Doesn't matter if you already have a digital meter. We had a digital net meter when we installed solar panels 5 years ago and we're mid suffolk on north shore.

We already pay such high electric rates and the company can't afford meter readers??

$25 to read the meter starting in 2023? Is that documented somewhere?

I assume these permit them to throttle power usage? With Indian Point shut down and this state being run by absolutely brain damaged morons, expect power shortages to be the norm as they have been in California.

As i understand it all it does is permit them to more accurately measure and see your usage through the web without having to pay meter readers.

The throttling is of AC when you have a smart thermostat, you have to sign up for it. I did it this year and its over, I already disabled it. I appreciate the 2 free ecobees I got!
