Out of that List I have only eaten at King Umberto's. I loved Vespa in Great Neck but I think they moved or closed down. I see there is a Vespa in Farmingdale but not sure if it's the same place that was in great neck. Verace in Islip is good, Rigazzi in Smithtown is not too bad either.
Exactly, they're Italian-American, not Italian. And it doesn't get much more Italian-American, not Italian than Olive Garden. If you're at a restaurant that has penne alla vodka on the menu, you're not at an Italian restaurant.
I recently tried MaBella in Commack and can vouch for its quality, food was delish. Nice atmosphere.
