Hi all, my house is up for sale and today a teenager crashed her car in my yard damaging my front yard, stairs and others, luckily no one was hurt. Police was involved and my bushes that I maintained from long time and the reason I bought the house in first place are gone. Person doesn’t want insurance to be involved, please advise what should I do
I’ve been an auto insurance adjuster for 30 years. Involve insurance. You will NEVER get your claim satisfied by this person. They will “know a guy” who can do the work. The work will be done to their satisfaction, not yours. When people tell me that the other guy wants to pay I tell them the only way I would do it is if they left their credit card on file at the body shop of my choice.
If I am reading this correctly I have one serious question to ask. Your property was damaged by a teenage driver and you are taking the statement of the teenager to not go through insurance? I am hoping that you spoke to the parent/guardian and just did not say that in your post. Regardless, you have to contact your agent and let them settle it. You will need to obtain the police report to file the claim.
I hate to add more stress but depending upon the degree of damage to the stairs, there may also be structural damage to the house. Just out of curiosity did you take pictures? Right now, selling your home needs to be put on hold til this gets resolved along with the basement problems.
You don’t need a police report to file claim. It is always best to get one but is not a requirement.
true, unless it is a hit and run and you dont know who is the driver?
