I’m convinced that my 5” gutters are not up to the task; the issue I continually have is leaf debris/small twigs stopping up the downspout. I regularly clean them, but all it takes is a small logjam and they’re overflowing.
I’m thinking the 3”x4” downspout will be a significant improvement over the 2”x3” of the 5” gutter. It doesn’t look like much, but it works out to twice the surface area (12 square inches vs 6 square inches).
Anyone out there made the change?
Thanks…

If you are looking for gutters to work properly the size does not matter. You can keep going up in inches and will still have the same problem if you don't clean them out or as Lubby suggest get some type of gutter guards.

Yes. Not on LI, but on a new home we purchased in NNJ. We redid the roof and did gutters at the same time. Went from 5" to 6" and the recommendation of the contractor. They move a tremendous amount of water. This house is multi level and upper levels have 5" draining into 6" on the roof of the 1st floor. Highly recommended. They did install hoods as well.

Me too, installed them two years ago. Beats having to clean out the gutters.

I put gutter guards in a number of years ago- my problem is there are a lot of pines around me- ironically not on my property. The pine needles find their way onto my roof, then go right through the guards, eventually clogging them. They’re more difficult to clean with the guards in place.

If you look up gutter guards with respect to pines, it’s a whole subset of information. The guards for only pines are different than those for maples, oaks, etc.; I have both around me.
I’m having the 6” gutters installed in a couple of weeks, and will update with my findings.
