LIRR's 1980s-era train cars back in fleet, with M9s on wait-list- per Newsday article. Says 110 of them will be back in the lineup by the 4th quarter. Will not go to GCT though. There are only 120 M9s in service and they need the M3s to shore up the additional trains till all the M9s are ready in 2023 They will keep them around till 2027 , when the M9A (whatever those are) show up.
Brings back memories, grosser bathrooms , crappy seats , just awful,except for maybe that single seat. Looks like my commuting days are going to end using the same trains I did when I started my career as these were rolled out in 1985 and I started commuting in 84. Also they fail at about 66k miles while the M7 at 410k, so I would expect more delays. Yes, it's a small number compared to the 830 M7's, but with my luck it will end up one of my trains.
Maybe they can bring back the old diesels, so people can smoke in the vestibule and jump on and off them while they it's moving. I remember getting workout with the awful shocks bouncing us up and down.
Remind me to invest in Duct tape. How else are the going to do repairs.

Meanwhile a few miles away, Metro-North still has a sizeable M3 fleet running, and those cars don't look like they've been through a war. Lower usage, or better maintenance.
