Please advise what school district in Nassau county has a rigorous curriculum but healthy competition (nothing cut-throat). Nice happy teachers and kids/families who won’t kill for admission to Ivy.
My kids are honor students BUT need a more laid-back atmosphere in the school to thrive. I want to preserve my kids' mental health without sacrificing their education and college readiness. If that unicorn exists
TBH that's really up to your kids ....my kids went to that kind of high school and my DD just decided early on she wasn't gonna buy into any of it. Guess who is happiest at college? A lot of this is friend-group specific too - if your kids can avoid those kids that's great, but it's who they happen to end up friends with, and your kids feel stressed by that, that's something you have to help them manage.
This seems like micro-managing. You really don't know how your kids will respond unless they're in the thick of it. Maybe they'd thrive in a more compettive environment? Or maybe they would just do their own thing and not let it bother them?
I'd say maybe South Side would fit this description - but this is going to be dependant on how your kids react to a given environment. Which is a projection at best.

Even in laid-back CA, the highest performing high schools have lots of tiger moms. Of course, your child could break out on his own without being in a cut-throat environment. I would say that most of the peer competition is rather friendly and supportive. It's the parents that want to eat each other.
Whooops, just realized OP wanted Nassau. Harborfields, the first very highly rated LI school district without a reputation for Tiger moms/“rich kids” is in Suffolk.

This fantasy snow flake school does not exist. Either achieve or get crushed by the competition. Or if you are lucky, you inherit your wealth like alot of people in my neighborhood. I was puzzled how so many seemingly low intelligence people can live in my pricey zip, but my wife who hangs out with them tell me they just inherited the wealth. It explains why there are so many liberals in the North Shore.

They’re getting dumber by the day. It’s unbelievable. It really is.
And I’ve encountered so many “educated” people that have me stunned in amazement at how incredibly dumb they actually are. It’s downright frightening.
