I know of 2 households that are receiving both a STAR exemption (shows under mynassauproperty.com) as well as receiving a STAR credit check (2 different amounts and not duplicates) the last 2 years. I thought it was 1 or the other and not both. Am I mistaken? We're only receiving the credit check and nothing shows for STAR on the above site. We were converted over to the credit check automatically years back.
This is the STAR exemption check not the property tax refund/relief checks. If you bought a house years ago and you re-upped several years back on that website when the state did the audit then you still get an automatic credit on your taxes. If you bought a house in the last several years, didn't sign up on that website, or if your HH income exceeds 250k, you get a yearly check instead.

Yea I agree. Sorry I was replying to hotkarls post about 2 checks. I guess I didn’t quote his post so I confused everyone.
I kinda liked having the credit. The check is fine but it was nice just having that amount automatically knocked off instead of waiting around for the check to show up. I’m just lazy I suppose.

I always preferred the credit too but it’s obvious the state is phasing it out for some reason in favor of checks.

Somebody must need a job or overtime or something. I would think applying the credit would be far more cheaper than processing, printing, and mailing checks. Plus postage. But hey, it’s NY. Why bother with efficiency.
