Curious. Who decided or voted fr the state to be a sanctuary state. Did anyone ask you? How was it just decided for all people to bear the burden?

I'd guess it was one of those usual short-sighted progressive virtue signals. NYS Legislature. Dimwitted and now very expensive.

I’m sure it was one of items things buried behind 200 other things in a bill. Sneak it in just as they always do. They know people won’t go thru it all and that should be illegal.

Believe it or not it wasn't the legislature. For years the "sanctuary" status was not state wide and pretty much depended on the county. Around 10 years ago there was a lawsuit that made it to the state supreme court which of course ruled holding illegals for ICE against was somehow against the state constitution, effectively making the entire state a sanctuary state.

I recall a number of years back that they took in some servants and cared for them when they escaped.

I’d like to think or thought my charity donations were going to the people of the USA. I changed that VERY QUICKLY!
Like many said, “it’s a big business”. Especially when there’s money involved.

Sadly, many post on this forum are about housing. Let’s now see how much “housing “ all of a sudden pops up! As they continue to takeover the hotels. All at premium rates.

I'm one of those "GC folks". A few words from my perspective:
  • A lot of folks in my village are against the casino. Personally, I couldn't care less except for the increase in traffic. The Meadowbrook/RF mall traffic is already terrible. Hopefully part of the Casino plan is to look into the traffic situation.
  • About those illegal aliens (that's right term, not this migrant nonsense): they won't go to Garden City. Instead they'll go to Uniondale or Hempstead. No worries here. Having said that, I believe that a lot of illegal alien will end up in the Hempstead area regardless and as much as I despise illegal immigration, I do think that most of these folks will be an upgrade to the politicians currently running Hempstead village into the ground.
Of course the real issue here is the federal government (Biden Administration).

I don’t blame people for being against it. I would be kind of funny if it happened due to the massive fight against the lighthouse project. I can’t see this actually being built, but you never know. I 100% agree with you about the illegal aliens or my preferred term border jumpers or just jumpers.
