Default For those who may not be familiar with Lawrence

The Village of Lawrence is one of the upscale "5 Towns" (none of which are towns) that includes the Village of Cedarhurst and the Hamlet of Hewlett, the Hamlet of Inwood and the Hamlet of Woodmere.

For those who may not be familiar with Lawrence:

Lawrence is a village (incorporated in 1897) in the southwest part of the Town of Hempstead, in the southwest part of Nassau County, adjacent to the Queens/Nassau County line.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Lawrence in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Inwood, the Village of Cedarhurst and the Village of Woodsburgh; on the east by Hewlett Bay; on the south by Reynolds Channel; and, on the west by New York City (the Nassau/Queens County line).

The Village of Lawrence has a different border than does the "Lawrence, NY 11559" postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Lawrence, NY 11559" address and not be in the Village of Lawrence and a place can be in the Village of Lawrence and have other than have other than a "Lawrence, NY 11559" mailing address): places that have a "Lawrence, NY 11559" mailing address that are not in the Village of Lawrence are in the Village of Cedarhurst and the Hamlet of Inwood; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Lawrence that have a "Cedarhurst, NY 11516" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): //www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

I would avoid lawrence if I planned to send my kids to public school. What attracts you to the area?

If your sole interest is special-ed there are better districts. (Not that Lawrence isn't good. it is. But the other issues with living in lawrence outweigh that, IMO. Unless you're orthodox and sending to yeshiva.)

Yes I know that is true I currently live on the North Shore and my district is very small and they do not have a good program for my son. They are allowing me to find an alternate program.Lawrence will be happy to have my son.So far 15 districts have turned us down. It is a huge problem. Thanks for your help.
