Does anyone know what year they began to issue c of o's in Smithtown / Head of The Harbor ? House was built in 1953. All we can find is a letter from the clerk stating one has been granted that was dated 1954 it does not even have letterhead or a stamp.
Is the house in Head of the Harbor? If so, that's an incorporated village and they have their own Building Department (as does Nissequogue right next door to it.) Did you go to the Village Building Dept or the Town of Smithtown Building Dept?
In HofH and Nissequogue the village is the entity that issues permits, COs and CCs. If you went to the Smithtown Bldg Dept, they may not have been sent a copy of the actual Certificate from the Village and just got a notification from the Village instead.
