Hey Guys,

I was looking at a forclosure home that was a signle family house and the person leaving in the home made it an 2 famliy house without any permits.

The home is in Town of North Hemstead.

I went to the department of building and they told me that the house is single damily and it can't be converted to 2 family.

My question is can I get a mother daughter permit and have my sister live on the top since it already has a kitchen or it's not possible and I'll have to take the kitchen out?

Thanks for all your replies!

There are certain rules concerning Mother/daugther classification. If its an older home, you may have to do certain things to comply. IMO, look for a lgal 2 family or mother/daughter. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.

The 2 family houses are just very expensive. I thought I can't get this house since it's build like an 2 family just not leaglly.
Is it a lot of trouble to get mother daughter permit?
Also if I want to get the permit do I have to remove the kitchen for the house in order for them to inspect it.

Thanks

Trouble with a permit depends on alot of things such as the type of home, layout, and which town you are in.

If you were getting a permit , no need to remove move the stove that your getting a permit for.
