Friend's of mine live in lakegrove. It can be expensive to live there, but it's a safe great neighborhood. They live off of pond path. They pay 12k in taxes though.

I wouldn't hesitate to consider Lake Grove. There is a range of housing: some spots where the houses are a little older and might need some work, making them more affordable to someone on a budget who doesn't mind doing some work. There is also some fairly new housing stock which will cost more, but will have few (if any) things needed to be done to move in to. The area is safe, convenient to shopping, the LIE. As some people have pointed out, it lies within three school districts, so when looking you might want to double check what district a house you might be interested in lies within, and then research accordingly.

we drove around lindell ave and beech st and there are so many 2 bedroom houses that don't even look like houses they look like trailers! plus the streets are very narrow. I'm not used to seeing houses without garages ..and even driveways...

Try a different section in lake grove. Maybe you can find something you like.

Lake Grove has housing for all different incomes...very small homes, extremely large homes, and everything in the middle. I find it to be somewhat unique that it really does include all different income ranges. There are a lot of improvements that are being made to the area: new retail construction and a new roundabout planned for the five corners area...should be nice, if they do it right (being managed by the Town of Brookhaven).

Five Corners roundabout? This should prove interesting.

BTW thanks -- I now have the Yes song Roundabout stuck in my head!
