Hi everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to read my post!!! I am 24 years old and was born and raised in Long Island, New York. I have a Bachelors degree and am also a certified Holistic Health and Wellness Counselor. I have recently decided to go back to school and get my Masters Degree in Acupunture and Chinese Medicine. I am having a really hard time decideing between moving to the Fort Laurterdale/Miami area or Houston. I will be taking out loans to go back to school so money is defintily a huge factor. Also I am moving alone with my two dogs one is an American Bulldog(very Big), and the other is a pug so thats also a concern for me in Miami I herd they are very strict with breads resembling Pitbulls. I really appreciate a diverse integrated city considering that I am from New York and that is what I am used to. I also want to feel as safe as possible where ever I live considering I am making the move alone. If anyone has any advice for me at all I would be very gratefull. I have spent alot of time in Miami but have never been to Houston. I am aso very concerned that being from N,Y. that I might have a very difficult time adjusting to Texas as opposed to Florida. If there is anyone who has been to both places or even one or the other, I would really appreciate your opinion! Thank you soooo much, and I hope somone can help!!!
An acquaintance of mine moved from L.I. to Houston earlier this year and she absolutely loves it!! (including low housing costs...)
She also has dogs, but I don't remember the breeds.
She's forever trying to get everyone else to move there .
If you're interested in getting in touch with her, send me a DM.

Please excuse my horrible spelling and grammer!!!
With the "grammer" you will fit in in either state.
I'm curious about why you'd want to go to school to help people if you can't write. That aside, it all depends on what school you want to attend. Why not study up on the schools and figure out which ones place better and which ones are most rigorous.
Personally, I prefer Ft. Lauderdale to Houston. But if I had a chance to study at Rice, I'd go to Houston.
I would definitly be interested in getting in touch with her, thank you so much for the advice! As for the DeadPool person, I was unaware that Healing people Holisticaly and Spelling go hand in hand. As a matter of "FACT" spelling is proven not to be any indication of how smart someone is or is not! Since you clearly have some extra time on your hands you can google that!!!! However, people taking the time to write nasty, insulting, things on a forum to a complete stranger, is a determining factor of when somone has a little bit too much time and bad energy to spare . Maybe you need an Holistic Health Counselor to work through some of your issues!!! Thank you to everyone who is using thhis forum to share positive helpfull information!

Smart can get you through a maze. If you are messing with someone's body, you need to know what's there, what it does, what it's connected to, and all of the research about how it affects system states. If you are studying something, you need knowledge.
I bet one's willingness and ability to accrue spelling knowledge is a pretty fair indication of how well they do in medical school. I think that's why the tests are used to gauge knowledge.

Deadpool, not necessary. There are ample forums on city-data where you can expound on your brilliance and choose to belittle posters who have posed a question on a completely separate topic. Feel free to open a general thread in one of the mental health forums.
To the OP, I understand from some friends of mine that the Houston economy remains strong even as crude prices have dropped. If you are seeking an area with a certain level of discretionary income, which I would presume your field requires to a certain degree, I would target that area. You seem to be solo, so you can always try one area, and if things are not working, pull up stakes and check out the other. Good luck to you.
You can get a heck of a house in the Houston area for not a whole lot of money. However just be aware property taxes are still relatively high (NOT compared to LI, but compared to the rest of the US.
I looked for houses on the SE side near Johnson Space Center. Houston has a series of highway belts that circle it. Its a bit more suburban with each belt as you move away from the city.
Some of the negatives...air pollution is very bad. Be wary of industries are to your southeast...as the winds typically blow from the Gulf of Mexico esp in summer. It is god-awful for a few months in summer (but less time than than it is god-awful in FL :-)...that is unless you love humidity. But heck with all you are saving on the house you can afford AC!
Winters can't be beat.
I have family in west central FL...who can attest to the fact that FL is a dead zone. The economy and housing market are among the worst in the country. I'd choose Houston any day.
Another thing to consider....the Houston area has the HIGHEST locality pay in the US for government workers. If there are federal govt jobs in your field...the money is fantastic in Houston. Gov employees make more annually than they do in NYC.
