I called the broker and asked them how they could even bring me to a place that they knew didn't accept cats.... and AFTER I fell in love with the place tell me "PS don't tell anyone you have a cat".

I didn't sign the contract in Baldwin. And as far as I hear, someone else jumped on it pretty quick. I admit I am heartbroken.

I did look into Gibson, and the ones I saw didn't allow cats either. I have not checked out Farmingdale yet. I will do some scouting this weekend. Walking distance to the train is excellent! One of the things that bummed me about Baldwin was that it was exactly a 7 minute walk to the train, but, I would've had to drive to the station anyway, because I sometimes get stuck at work very late. SO I would have to end up paying $125 bucks a month for a parking space!

This is my first place... I can't believe how exhausting this whole process is! It is emotionally and physically draining.
I am looking for my first home and feel the same way. I fell in love with a house in North Baldwin and people are telling me not to buy it. You are better off feeling heartbroken now than regretting your decision later. Have you looked in Oceanside? There is a great Co-op complex with a pool on Rose street. You can walk to the train and stores and it is a very safe area. I believe there are some affordable units there. i forget the name but it should be easy to find.(It's not Oceanside Cove)

I graduated from Baldwin 30 yrs ago and the school was not good then. There were narcs and gangs. The neighborhood got progressively worse. 30 yrs ago I would not have sent my kids to Baldwin school district. Today, 2014 I would not even get out of my car in Baldwin. It's sad, and I would not recommend moving to Baldwin. I hear that Freeport is more safe. Good luck neighborhood hunting.

Oh please! no hard facts anywhere in your post as to why anyone should not feel safe. Drugs and gangs are present in every school, dont expect teachers to babysit your kids.

I'm getting the feeling that maybe it's just realtors making multiple accounts on here trying to blockbust&redline Baldwin.. Since they can't do it openly anymore. Or maybe even jealous neighbors since it made it onto CNN's money magazine.

- I could not find any location on Google Maps showing blight in North Baldwin (as i've mentioned in a previous thread). I even invited anybody to give me an address of a blighted intersection to look up on google maps and nobody could. The residential areas look amazing and wonderfully kept, very very very rare to see a blighted home. The commercial strip (Grand Ave) looks okayish, though of course nothing special. I have driven through several times also.

- All the statistics show that North Baldwin is a solidly middle-income/borderline upper middle income area since it's much higher than the Nassau County median household income:

http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/36/3604143.html
http://money-archive.wp.alley.ws/gal...neymag/25.html

- Even the percentage of college graduates (Bach+) is higher than the Nassau County average.
http://www.usa.com/baldwin-ny-popula....htm#Education
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/36/3604143.html

- ALL the school statistics show Baldwin's public school performance is still good, strong and competitive:

http://www.greatschools.org/new-york...hool-District/

I'm COMPLETELY LOST right now. I mean if the town is Moderator cut: language removed and that's the end of it!! But I haven't seen not one shread of evidence.

LI School District Ranks 2013
(MemoryMaker)

I only clicked on this link and it shows Baldwin to be below average in Nassau - and not even close to the top 50 on Long Island. Of course that may not even contradict a description of "good, strong and competitive" depending on how one wants to define terms. And it may have nothing to do with the safety of Baldwin in any case (original thread topic)

I lived in Baldwin Harbor for 4 years and never had to worry about my safety. I walked the streets of Baldwin Harbor 3am in the morning nearly every night, walked from LIRR Baldwin to my house on Verity Lane well after midnight some nights and no one ever bothered me or jumped out at me, not one single incident. I moved away because he wanted to move in his girlfriend....

It shows that Baldwin schools are still in line with a lot of good towns that never get bashed (like Southampton)...and outperforms Lindenhurst, Island Trees, Deer Park

Like the others, I don't understand the Baldwin bashing (well, actually, I do-- but I don't feel like addressing the elephant in the room). Nobody is saying Baldwin is the pinnacle of Long Island living, but it's definitely not the hell hole people make it out to be.

Even when people complain about it sharing borders with Freeport, Hempstead, and Roosevelt, they forget that it borders the nice areas of those communities, AND Baldwin also borders Rockville Center and Oceanside.

But let people keep spewing ignorance on Baldwin, for those of us who don't buy into the pandemonium, there are deals to be had.

I don't understand why people are bashing ALL of Baldwin. It's not a hellhole compared to some towns on Long Island. The area I lived in was safe to walk in very late at night. A lot of the trouble that I heard about Baldwin occurred in North Baldwin and close to Hempstead. Grand Avenue in Baldwin can get quite interesting on some nights.
