We switched to it 3 years ago after a renovation - our plumber told us just about anything can go against it - sofa, tables, etc etc, just nothing huge like an armoire, which will block the heat.
Yes, if you have water coming out of your baseboard heating you have a serious problem. The water stays in the pipes.
My plumber told me anything but a heavy armoire or curio cabinet type thing. I don't like furniture up against the walls so it wasn't much of an issue for us. The plumber actually came out to look at our proposed furniture layout before running the pipes. I have a buffet in the DR and one chair in the den up against it, have for 3 years and no problems.
If the reason for securing furniture to the wall is for anti-tipping purposes you can still do it, you just need a longer strap or bracket. Our couch is against our baseboard without issues, as is our bed.
