Please point out one of the proposals that talks about cutting down more trees..these are sites that already have been cleared.

Maybe you should supplement your common sense with some READING, hippie!!! .

Brookhaven Town bought more vacant land than any other town in NYS the last 5 years. They did so to preserve land.

The next time you drive up Wm Floyd Pkwy, take a look at Suffolk Meadows and you will see the previously cleared land has grown back again, it's not like the land is "Razed".

I want to understand you... Are you saying that you support what Levy is proposing if he built in at Suffolk Meadows? Your beef is with it's current proposed location in Yapahank? Just asking because the sites are as identical as they can be. Both are huge tracts of land in the Pine Barrens with proximity to highways. I think the Yaphank location is BETTER simply because there is an industrial area and LANDFILL right down the road.

No, what Im saying is its the right idea but the wrong application and wrong locale.

Whats needed in Brookhaven is LIRR electrification to 112 and Transit Orieted Development near the hub.(The Multiplex/Junk Yards off Horseblock would be ideal)
112 needs to be our 110.

Levy is dead wrong on this one.

As for Suffolk Meadows its just a question of what/when.
Pray to God its not a casino.

Wow-I just watched the video and it is quite ridiculous. The area he is talking about is not in the "middle of the Pine Barrens" as he states. I live just south of the area and I have no problem with anything that the person in the video says is proposed for the site at all.

In the video the guy mentions public football and baseball fields and I definitely see nothing wrong with that either. I also like the way the person is trying to say what kind of area “young people” want to live in. Young or old; all people are different regardless of age. Some like it more rural and some like it more urban. To say that young people would not want to live in the area is ridiculous.

“They’re all gonna drive in their cars clogging up the roads”-WELCOME TO LONG ISLAND. The roads are already clogged up with traffic and will continue to get worse.

I do not know who made that video but it reminds me of the civic association in the area that fights anything being built as well as things that have already been in the area; such as the shooting range in Southaven Park.

“Runoff and pollution”- Let us take a good look at this. We have a dump, a power plant and a compost place nearby. Runoff from football and baseball fields and an arena that would fit 5,500 would be a problem? Brookhaven Lab is close enough that it has an affect on us as well. Shortly after moving here the area had to switch from well water to public water since our well water was contaminated from the lab. Runoff from football and baseball fields and an arena that would fit 5,500 people would be a problem? Give me a break.

I tend to believe that this video was created by someone whom lives in the area due to the weak arguments and also due to the fact that he is not saying this should not be built somewhere on Long Island but that it should not be built on this particular site. If this video was made by someone involved in the neighborhood’s civic association I would simply like to alert him to the fact that their fight should have as good an impact on this project as their fight against the still up and running range did and the soon to be running power plant did.

I know the civic association is up in arms since the most active people in it and people whom run it live very close to the proposed sight. I would like to see them build the stadium as close to those houses as possible. They then can encourage everyone in the neighborhood to call in noise complaints to Public Safety every two minutes just as they encourage people to call in noise complaints on the range.

For those thinking that I have something against the civic association in my neighborhood; you are obviously correct. One day I had two people from the civic association ring my doorbell and they asked me to sign a petition against the range. I was not nasty in any way and I nicely explained to them that I was not interested in signing the petition since the range did not bother me and was there before any of the houses in this neighborhood were built. They left and the very next day Public Safety came to my house because my mother and brother whom were staying with me at the time had their registered and insured, not ratty looking cars parked in the grass next to my driveway. The Public Safety officer asked me to put them in the street since in the town of Brookhaven you can’t park any vehicles on your grass. I parked the cars in the street and that was the end of it.

It is not hard to figure out who called Public Safety on me for this and it definitely left me with a bad feeling towards the civic association. If one drives down the blocks that the people with the loudest voices in the civic association live on that person would see many cars in the grass at many different homes. It would be one thing if they called on everyone whom has vehicles on the grass but it was obviously just me simply because I did not sign the petition.

The thing that really burned me about this is the fact that I do my best to help out people in the neighborhood with anything I can. I work on cars and will gladly come to the aid of anyone around that breaks down or has any issue with their vehicle that they bring to my intention. I of course do not charge anyone and refuse to take money from someone if they try to pay me. I am also willing and able to help anyone whom has a project around their house that they may need help with. After that incident I was livid and vowed that I would not help anyone anymore since I have no way of knowing whom is “in” with these people and I would not want to help someone out and have them call the town on me for something stupid in the future. This mindset only lasted for one day of course and knowing the way I am, if even the head of the civic association were to come and ask me for help with something I would actually still do it. Too bad a lot of the people involved with the civic association are not quite as “civil”.

The only thing I would be against with the building upon this site is if they propose low income housing in the form of Section 8 or something similar. I do not just say this for my neighborhood. I personally feel there is enough Section 8 type of housing on all of Long Island. I am not naïve to the point that I will say that EVERYONE on Section 8 is a criminal but it is a fact that many are and areas that are infused with it do have more crime issues than those without.

I know what you mean about the video. I go into Southaven Park all of the time with my kids and the pictures in the beginning of the video look as though they were taken in the park and not at the site where the building would take place.

Those pictures were taken in South Haven Park, the video states that.

Public football and baseball fields need to be mowed and fertilized, right? Maybe some insecticide too. That will runoff into the groundwater. I guess you wont mind Yaphank Road turning into bumper to bumper traffic everyday. I guess you dont mind that the worsening traffic on Long Island creates pollution, contibuting to higher asthma and cancer levels.
Just look at Route 58 in Riverhead, and all the traffic means more garbage at the side of the road, which will wind up in the pine barrens.
So you have BNL, a dump, and a power plant nearby, so that justifies adding even more pollution to the environment. At least BNL, the power plant, and the dump dont clog the roads with traffic. Habitat loss is a major problem on Long Island. You probably are the type to complain about the deer in your yard, but they along with other animals were forced out of their habitat by its destruction.
I produced this video, and I think I did a pretty good job on getting my point across. There will always be a few people who dont see how this project harms the environment. Just like when Route 58 was changed. But you see the results of that, dont you?
As far as what the civic association did, yes, that was mean, perhaps considered extortion. But dont let that cloud your mind to the damage this project will cause the environment.
There are plenty of other, better locations for such a project, that sit in decay. They could be used to gentify areas in Suffolk that are suffering, like Brentwood, Medford, CI,etc.
This is a good project but in the wrong place.
