My family is going to be moving to Suffolk County. We have narrowed the search down to either Lindenhurst Village or Babylon Village. I would like to know what people think of these places and which place they think is better in terms of schools (I'll be in school so it's important to me), atmosphere, people, shopping, crime, etc. Basically what's the better town. Thank you. Stephanie.

Babylon is higher priced than Lindenhurst. It also offers a beautiful village and cool atmosphere, with shops, dining, movies.....It can also be a bit cliquish & snobby. Good schools, nice park at Argyle.

Lindenhurst Village on the other hand, has more 2 parent working families and lower cost homes. The schools are better than most and I can personally vouch for the Middle & High schools. The village isn't kept up as nicely as Babylon, but continued improvements have been made recently. One of these, is the beautiful new "family friendly" summer pavilion complete with water spray park at Venetian Shores. The pavilion also is host to live entertainment during the summer months. My family and I take full advantage of our new "hot spot". I only wish we had it when my kids were younger!

While Venetian Shores has a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address, Venetian Shores is not in the Village of Lindenhurst.

Venetian Shores is in the Hamlet of West Babylon ("Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address).

The Village of Lindenhurst has a different border than does the "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address and not be in the Village of Lindenhurst and a place can have other than a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address and be in the Village of Lindenhurst): places that have a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address that are not in the Village of Lindenhurst are in the Hamlet of North Lindenhurst and the Hamlet of West Babylon; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Lindenhurst with a "West Babylon, NY 11704" mailing address.

Having lived in both places, generally, Babylon Village is considered the more prestigous location. The schools in Babylon Village are also considered to be one of the better districts and does outscore Lindenhurst. Babylon Village is a smaller school district than Lindenhurst, so it makes it easier to know "everyone".

Babylon Village.

Years ago, my best friend's family moved from Bethpage to Lindenhurst over by Chateau la Mer. About a month later (mind you this was during the big hair 1980's) Lindenhurst was named "Worst Hair on LI". My friend nearly died! You would have thought her life had ended; a move out of Nassau and into the Worst Hair Village of LI. Oh, to be young again with such silly worries!

For most things pretty much across the board I would recommend Babylon Village. Lindenhurst is not bad though, and is getting better in some spots.

Workinggirl had a good post. Only thing I would say is that while some Babylon residents might be a little snobbish, most are not IMO.

Sigh, to Walter's post, regardless of his county map, Venetian Shores is considered to be in Lindenhurst to people actually in the area, including the Town of Babylon.

I agree... and we don't have to pay the village taxes which is nice

Without a doubt, Stephanie, Babylon Village is the choice. No slight on Lindy - but the choice between these two, it is Babylon.
