In terms of Long Island school districts, Sachem's in the middle, which means it's not bad at all- just keep in mind that it's about 600 students per grade..
It's a great deal for that there are so many houses in the area that are under $500K.

As everyone said, its in the middle, which is pretty good by national standards and also by the affordability factor on Long Island. Taxes are probably a little lower because of it being a humongous SD.

Would you say that Sachem has improved? I didn't hear too many good things about it back over 25 years ago when I was going to school.

Also which one is more preferred, Sachem North or East?

The elementary schools are all excellent.

Not sure about the maps but I would imagine that the HS that has Farmingville (East?)would be your second choice.

It's mediocre by LI standards. They've addressed the size by building a second high school, but it's still big. There are a lot of opportunities for kids there who are outgoing and who get involved..for those who need to be pushed, there is a giant mass of unmotivated and apathetic kids to get involved with, and the things that usually come along with that mentality, which I view as a negative.
