I just bought a house this year in Nassau county.
I been receiving these offers in the mail from American Water Resources offering insurance for domestic water line crossing through the property line.
60$ a year.
I do not like unsolicited offers, and am skeptical.
checked BBB, they seem on the up and up.
is this insurance necessary?
Thanks
My house was built in 2004. Even though it is pretty new, I still paid for that protection plan. I kept getting them in the mail like you and started to wonder about it. Looked them up and it all seemed legit. I even called my water company to confirm what that company was trying to offer was indeed true. Who knows whats underground and if the main pipe breaks, I think it would be very costly to fix. Not sure how often this happens or if it even happens at all.....but they say there is a sucker born every min.
But knowing my luck......I got it.
By the way, I paid $64.80 for the year with AQUA but the service is thru Home Service USA

I thought about this as well, but I'm skeptical.
I just don't trust any of these insurance or extended warranty type of things.
The fine print will tell you that the water main had to break during a hailstorm on the fourth of July due to stress from a stampede of wild elephants. Or something like that.
That being said, my cape was built in the 50's and the thought does cross my mind that the main could let go at any given moment. Now, I'm a handy guy and have actually repaired or replaced water mains on a few occassions over the years, but at this point in my life I have no desire or ambition to do it myself if it were to happen, so I'd love to hear someone chime in that has actually taken LI water up on this insurance and what their experience if any, was with it.
Maybe your house is different, but my water meter is IN my house (this is Suffolk). The water company has been out and did clarify for me (because we actually had a main break in the yard at a previous home out of state) that because the meter is in our basement, our portion of responsibility begins there. Should anything happen to the line outside our foundation, that is the water company's responsibility.
I'd say a waste of money also. If the sewer pipe installed is made of PVC - that stuff is virtually indestructible, unless you have an underground fire, explosion or a backhoe were to hit it. Save your money. You can always get it, if you change your mind.
