Costco usually sells some good sets around this time of year. I got an all aluminum set with cushions (couch, 2 chairs, and a nice stone coffee table) for about $1300, and later in the season when the price came down to $1000, I got more money back with no hassles. Costco is great like that. The only challenge is that you'll need to have a way to get the set back to your house (friends of ours have a van, which is how we got it back home).
Note the Costco website also sells furniture but I have found it to be very expensive. The set that I got at the store was never offered on the website. The set was branded "Kirkland" on the boxes, but the instructions inside said "Agio" (http://www.agio-usa.com/furniture/).
I recently subscribed to some catalogs from Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware and was shocked to see the prices of their outdoor furniture (same price or higher than indoor furniture!). I'll stick with my Costco set!
over the years I have gotten very affordable sets at kmart ( less than $500) that lasted a few years & were really comfortable & easy to take care of. At the time that was my max budget & it worked out great.
Not sure how good the quality is, but I plan on checking it out over the weekend because we need a set as well.
